Meet Mallory: Communications & Marketing Manager for Studios Inc
Mallory Edson holds many hats; musician, video producer, and at Studios Inc – Communications and Marketing Manager. Mallory’s background in art started at a young age. With a mother who is an artist and a father who is a musician, she has been playing the violin since she was six years old. She started playing in a band right out of college with the late husband of Studios Inc.’s Director of Operations Casey Price-Clark. She played with the band Whiskey for the Lady for 10 years in the Kansas City bluegrass scene. Currently, Mallory plays in and produces videos for Americana band Truck Bed Taxi and avant-garde rock group Dimension Bill Edwards. When talking about the music scene in Kansas City, Mallory says, “The roots music community is awesome and it has been such a joy to get to know all these people. With their support I’ve seen my confidence grow, not only as a musician but in all facets of my life.”
Studying Theatre & Video Production at Missouri Western State University allowed Mallory to develop a passion for storytelling. She initially entered school with aspirations of becoming a theater producer, an experience that has greatly contributed to her role at Studios Inc, particularly in organizing exhibitions. It's easy for Mallory to see parallels between theater and gallery spaces, “It has definitely helped because although there's no actors, putting a show together feels very much like tech week in a theater production. I can handle the stress because my job in theater was to produce – give me whatever you need. I'll process it and find a way to solve the problem. It's a real team product. It doesn't work unless everyone is doing their job. Everyone has a role and is using their skills to the best of their potential.”
Mallory expressed her ambitions for working in non-profit communications to Casey when they ran into each other at a concert in Spring 2023 and began working with Studios Inc later that summer on everything from website design to social media management to print communications. She is excited to use her work to help others, whether it's helping a brand grow through social media marketing or educating audiences through visual storytelling. Since she started working with the organization over a year ago, Studios Inc. has grown to have more of an active digital footprint in Kansas City. When asked about her favorite part of the job she said, “My favorite part of the job is helping the artists, getting to know them, and hearing their story as we put together their exhibition. Seeing the exhibition hall change over and over is exciting, and I enjoy seeing how the creative processes of everyone at Studios Inc. comes together.” In the future, Mallory would like to continue expanding her role in non-profit spaces as well as collaborate with more musicians in the mid-west region.
