'Ecstasy and Dreams' by Julie Farstad

It Could Have Been So Different, oil on Claybord, 13 x 9 inches, 2011The Studios Inc Exhibition Space is pleased to present Ecstasy and Dreams, an exhibition featuring resident artist Julie Farstad, on view from 09.14.12 to 10.26.12 with an opening reception Friday, 09.14.12 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM. Farstad will also present a discussion of her work, open to the public, on Saturday, 09.15.12, at 12 PM.Ecstasy and Dreams is an exhibition that includes new oil and fabric paintings, as well as soft sculpture. Farstad uses children’s toys, art history, and landscape references to create images that are about identity development, rites of passage, and her own experiences of childhood and adolescence.  Julie Farstad is an artist and Associate Professor of Painting at the Kansas City Art Institute. Her work is represented by Byron Cohen Gallery in Kansas City, Zolla/Lieberman Gallery in Chicago, and Ricco/Maresca Gallery in New York. She was awarded a residency at The Studios Inc in Kansas City in 2010 and her work was exhibited in Women to Watch 2010, Body of Work: New Perspectives in Figure Painting at the National Museum for Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.Julie Farstad is currently a resident artist at The Studios Inc. The Studios Inc provides studio space, professional development, networking, and exhibitions for mid-career artists in Greater Kansas City.
